Giver's Block

If you're drawing a blank as the holidays approach, remember: Of all the gifts that you can give, the best gift for a lover is one that intrigues desire and unleashes the senses. It can be overwhelming to shop for pleasure in a marketplace so full of choices, so we've devised three strategies to make your way around the wondrous things the web has to offer.

Colors

Red and black are color staples in the pleasure industry, with white making some strides. Letting color guide you is an excellent way to narrow down the list of possibilities. For instance, the Juliette Encrusted Cuffs de Luxe and Camille Mask de Luxe ($79.00) by Luz de la Riva are pure silk and pure Swarovski with Agent Provocateur's Di-Di Kimono ($630.00). Or maybe Victoria's Secret's Embellished Lace Halter Teddy ($328.00).

La Perla's brown Tearose babydoll ($2,228.00) begs for Bijoux Indiscret's Butter Caramel Nip Gloss ($14.95) or Kissable Massage Oil ($31.50) in caramel or dark chocolate. Throw in their Poeme quill and edible ink set in caramel ($19.95) and you're done.

Frederick's Tie Me Up Hollywood Naughty Knicker ($22.00) plays beautifully with the red Love Is Art Kit ($59.00). Pick up a great bottle of red and it's on.

Stories

In the fall, we wrote out a post detailing everything you need to have the most fantastic picnic date ever. Shopping with a story works a lot like that: you picture what you want to achieve for yourself and your partner and zero in on individual details. For example, a gorgeous honest-to-goodness leather duffel bag from Fossil ($398). Inside, a ticket for a joint adventure involving railways.

Just as easily, you may use films your partner likes or you've enjoyed as a template. Last summer, we distilled three films into their most erotic elements and suggested how the sensory experiences presented may be reproduced at home. Dive in.

Recon

If you've still got nothing, make like the NRA and get up in your partner's overshares online. Even if they're not on Pinterest, carefully cataloguing everything they love, chances are they're still liking companies and products on Facebook and tweeting cool stuff they've seen around. A little recon will go a long way. Oh, and don't forget to look up wishlists on Amazon.
